Crafty Bastard Brewery - Knoxville
This past weekend I spent a day or two in Knoxville seeing some music and visiting a few breweries. One of the highlights of my visit was Craft Bastard Brewing, which is a short trip from the Old City.
I'll be honest I wasn't sure what to expect when I first walked into The Crafty Bastard. It smelled like a microbrewery, and it looked like one, so I knew I was at least going to get a nice cerveza. Damn.... DAMN was I right, and I love it when I'm right. This brewery has very quickly become one of my favorites. Just a shame I can't get much of it down here around Chattanooga.
The Crafty Bastard specializes in unique and specialty beers, which was a welcome change up to the oh-so-common Lagers, IPAs, and Stouts we typically get from breweries in the South East.
I had several beers while I was there, and they were excellent. As can be judged by my slight lapse in memory of the evening.
The Rosemary Saison was the perfect blend of floral aromas, and perfectly light and balanced. My only regret is not getting more of this to bring home and sip by the pool.
The Early Grey IPA turned out to be not only an amazing beer. But, quite possibly, one of my all time favorite beers. I am an IPA man, but who isn't, right? But this IPA had the perfect balance of flavor and hops, while also having this extreme hit of Early Grey Tea on the back end. It was amazing.
If you find yourself in the Knoxville, TN area do yourself a favor, and stop in. They typically have a food truck parked outside. I'm not sure if these rotate or if it is the same vendor, but during my visit, they were slinging some of the best tacos I've ever seen.
