Summer Music Festivals in Chattanooga

If you don't live here you may not know, but Chattanooga is an outdoor city; much like most cities. There's a good reason that Chattanooga is the only town every to be voted Best Outdoor City by Outdoor Magazine... twice! We have some of the best rock climbing in America, and we're right up the road from some of the highest rated rapids in the world.  Bottom line?  Chattanooga truly shines in the Summer.

With Summer fast approaching, I wanted to take some time to break down the various festival and outdoor activities that move into the city during the warmer months.

This is the one that we're really known for, yet most locals tend to dodge like the plague. The Riverbend Festival started in 1982 as a five night event which has now grown to eight nights, and featuring around 90,000 attendees watching bands on one of the five stages that are setup along Riverside Drive along the river.  However this year seems to be fairly promising in the lineup department and I'll be honest, it's the first year that I've been a bit excited about attending in sometime.  I'm not too ashamed to admit that.

The festival begins June 10, 2016, and will culminated with a fireworks show on June 18, 2016.

Nightfall Concert Series

Nightfall is a free, weekly concert series downtown, and it's been around since 1992.  Which was a fact unbeknownst to me until writing this article. The opening acts start at 7 PM, with the headlining acts starting around 9 PM.

Typically the way they run the beer operation is you have to buy tickets after you get your wristband.  But fortunately the tickets last all summer.  I even had them take tickets from the previous year once, but shhhhhh. Even if you aren't too into whatever band might be playing on a particular night.  It's great to get out and walk around downtown just to go grab something from the many foodtrucks that tend to stop drop and set up shop at Nightfall.

Nightfall kicks of May 6, 2016 and runs every Friday until August 28, 2016.

Riverfront Nights

Very similar to Nightfall in concept.  This is another free concert series.  But unlike Nightfall this one gears up towards the beginning of the summer down by the Riverfront in front of the Aquarium. Doors open and beer sales begin at 6:30 PM and the show is typical over around 10. Think of it like a mini-Riverbend.

Riverfront Nights is every Saturday night starting July 25, 2016 and runs until September 5, 2016.
